The score of Erto moves between two worlds: memory and dream. Alessandro Negrini wanted a sound the audience would recognise as the song of the lake, so I built it from crystal glasses and goblets filled with water — a recurring call, almost a howl to the moon. The memories of the past are carried by near-folk themes, always acoustic, where the timbre of clarinet, accordion and traditional instruments comes first; the dream is a more rarefied, recurring music, like Eclissi, that drifts through the whole film.
“An emotional score that amplifies the bond between memory, grief and hope.”
